The makers of the film

Henrietta Norton and Dan Dennison collaborate to create documentaries and films about real contemporary human stories and experiences.

Most recently they have collaborated to make  this film, ‘Born and Reared’ a feature length documentary in Northern Ireland, exploring themes around gender and identity amongst men in a post conflict society. They will tour the film across communities in the United States, UK and Ireland.

Alongside ‘Born and Reared’ they have worked in the US, writing and making short films for The Guardian.

Henrietta Norton

Henrietta is the Co-Director of Hot feet Films, a production company based in East London. She produces and directs editorial films and branded content for a variety of clients including The Guardian, Conde Nast Video and Pentagram. These range from individual long form video pieces to multi episode web series with talent across many locations and countries.

Hen is currently working on the distribution of her latest feature documentary ‘Born and Reared’ that recently premiered at Galway Film Fleadh and was shortlisted for ‘Best Human Rights documentary’ and ‘Best new Irish Documentary’.

Hen works as a Creative Producer for a variety of arts organisations such as Artichoke, motiroti, Coney and Kids Company. Most recently; she was one of 3 producers on Lumiere London.

Hen has worked as a consultant to the arts and cultural sector, advising on alternative audience development, fundraising and marketing strategies. She has facilitated workshops around these themes across the UK, Europe and the Middle East since 2011 and has partnered with a variety of organisations apart of this work including The British Council and Arts Council England.

Hen is also on the board of ‘Unfinished Business’ (a theatre company based in London).

Hen founded the first UK crowdfunding platform back in January 2011 (wedidthis.org.uk) which she ran for 2 years before merging it with Crowdfunder.

Dan Dennison

Dan is a London based photojournalist. He has traveled extensively documenting current affairs, humanitarian crises, social and political issues in various regions of the Middle East, North America and Europe.

Dan is a stringer for Getty Images News in London and has worked with many international publications in print and online. These include The Financial Times, International Herald Tribune, The Guardian, The Irish Times, Gulf News, The Independent, Boston Globe. He also works with many other clients; both editorial and commercial also.

Since shooting on several VICE documentaries in 2012, Dan has continued to work with film. This has recently culminated in him becoming Director of Photography on a film shot up in the oil fields of North Dakota USA, for The Guardian and for “Born & Reared” a feature length documentary shot in Northern Ireland.

Dan splits his time between this and his production company; “CONTENT” which is based in London. CONTENT has grown from a 2 person start-up to a collective of more than 10 editors, photographers and video shooters. The company’s roster of clients ranges from ad agencies like AKQA, Cornerstone and Wieden & Kennedy to big name fashion brands (such as Converse and Nike) and tech companies like Spotify.

He has exhibited a number of times in Dublin and London and has also been a judge for several photographic competitions.

Dan has been a full member of the British Photographers Association since 2012.
